As I look back on the growth of the company, I marvel at how well our company has succeeded. Not only have we grown to the 4th Largest Independent Finance Company in the United States, but we have done so while maintaining consistant profitability and exceptional risk management. In addition unlike many other financial institutions, not only did we survive but we thrived during what was arguably the worst recession in the United States in almost 100 years. As I think about "how did we accomplish what we have" it comes down to three simple strategies:
First, we have recruited and developed an exceptional team of professionals that come to work every day striving to meet their customers' needs and help their customers grow their businesses. We have a team that truly understands "if we help our customer be successful, then we'll be successful." This approach provides complete alignment of objectives and allows us to deliver financial solutions that ultimately benefit all parties involved, truly win-win situations.
Secondly, I believe we have a focused desire to "truly understand" each customer's unique requirements and problems. By asking meaningful questions and developing a thorough knowledge of not only the customer, but the customer's industry and their challenges and opportunities, we can develop the "best" financing or leasing solution available. This unique approach allows us to "tailor or customer fit" each customers financing requirement, and who doesn't want to be "custom fit" at the same price as "off the rack."
Lastly, our approach to providing capital has served us well in both good and poor capital market conditions. Our strategy of selectively funding certain opportunities for our own balance sheet, and then selectively participating or syndicating others allows us to deliver the most cost-effective solutions to those customers that are "price sensitive" or have expansive capital needs, while still allowing us the flexibility to fund the more difficult assets, projects and credit profiles. This "broad" credit and transaction profile allows us to service almost every need of our customers, while still delivering superior service and one-stop financial solutions.
